Emergency Services

Sunday Breakfast Rescue Mission provides many services that meet the basic needs of the Philadelphia area’s homeless population:

Meals

The mission serves three meals, every day of the year. Meals are available to both men and women at our Center City location. Please arrive by the designated times to receive a meal.

Mealtimes

  • Breakfast – 7 am
  • Lunch – Noon
  • Snack – 2:15 pm (served on most days)
  • Dinner – 6 pm

Emergency Shelter

The overnight shelter provides accommodations for up to 175 men. During extreme temperatures, overflow sleeping mats are used so that no one will be turned away. Men are able to stay with us for thirty (30) days free of charge.

If men who are working with our staff need more time, they are able to enter into an extension program that includes an income-based fee. A large portion of this fee is used toward establishing savings for the man that will be returned when he transitions out of our facilities.

To receive a bed, please arrive before 6 pm and bring identification. Your bag will be checked, and you will receive a meal and a shower before bed. You do not need to call ahead, but if you have questions please call the chaplain at (215) 922-6400 ext. 112.

The dormitory was renovated in the summer of 2009. Updated accommodations include new carpet and paint, new windows, and a new HVAC system to provide a comfortable climate year-round.

Clothing Exchange

Clothes and toiletries are provided free of charge to those in need. These items are either donated directly to the mission, or through our thrift stores.

Chapel

Staff chaplains and volunteers from local churches conduct two services a day, prior to the noon and evening meal. If your church is interested in helping with Chapel services, please contact Richard Miekley, (215) 922-6400 ext. 110 or rmiekley@sundaybreakfast.org

Day Services

Chaplains are available during the day to provide assistance and referrals for people with various needs:

  • housing
  • employment opportunities
  • health service
  • legal aid
  • vocational training
  • connections to other agencies that provide these services
  • locations and telephone numbers to other shelters

Breaking the cycle of homelessness

Men who visit the mission for emergency services are given the opportunity to join the Overcomer’s Program, our year-long recovery program. Those men who desire to change their lives are equipped with the necessary skills for returning to society as productive citizens.
