Sunday Breakfast Rescue Mission is seeking compassionate and disciplined women to work with homeless women and children in our 12 month, residential Christian discipleship program located in the Germantown neighborhood of Philadelphia. Full-time and part-time positions available.

Summer is not the time that you normally think of overflowing beds at homeless shelters. But with the recession still lingering, people are having a hard time making ends meet. “We recently had a program alumni return,” said Chaplain Clay Parks. “His hours were cut back from full-time to 20 hours a week, and he can’t afford his apartment anymore.”

I first met Ted in March. He had recently been released from prison after serving 27 years for murder. After reading over his discharge papers (which described Ted’s diagnosis of severe mental illness, his past substance abuse issues and his “robotic” like physical movements), I immediately liked the guy.

Watch your mailbox for a letter regarding our building emergency. In late May, we learned that the masonry along the top of our building is severely damaged and is in imminent danger of collapse. The repair work is estimated to cost more than $100,000. If we don’t fix the problem, our building could be unfit to provide meals and shelter for the homeless.
